Slime Rancher 2 Debuts as #4 Game on Steam, Triples Peak Users of Original
Plus, a note on Cyberpunk 2077 headlines.
The Top Five
While it’s been a story for going on two weeks now, the resurgence of Cyberpunk 2077 is still remarkable. Thanks to a combination of the new Edgerunners anime alongside an update of the same name, the game has seen lots of new folks returning to give it another shot.
One word of warning though, while you may see headlines going around about how Cyberpunk has eclipsed Witcher 3’s all-time player count like it’s some kind of huge new accomplishment, it’s not the first time the game has done so. Back at launch Cyberpunk had between 800 thousand and one million concurrent players, more than ten times Witcher 3’s peak. So while it’s true that the game has passed Geralt once again, it’s certainly not something never-before-seen.
Five New Games
Slime Rancher 2 (#4)
Wait, Slime Rancher 2? I didn’t even know they finished Slime Rancher 1. Turns out that happened sometime back in 2017. Whatever Monomi Park changed, it’s worked well though. The original game peaked at just over 7,000 concurrent players eight months ago. The sequel has already achieved a peak of 21,000 despite also beginning in early access.
GUNDAM Evolution (#9)
If you missed it, there’s a new free-to-play PVP GUNDAM game out right now and it looks par for the course. From what I’ve heard, the gameplay seems good and fun as long as you’re prepared for the usual slew of F2P monitization schemes. That means battle passes, grinding currency to obtain the five unlockable GUNDAMs, and loot boxes with customization options inside.
Potion Permit (#18)
Want another chill game where you need to help a town of 30 different people? Diagnose their problems, figure out which potion you need to brew, and gather the materials out in the wilderness.
Construction Simulator (#19)
You know what this one is so I’ll just skip to the talking points. Construction Simulator has two different maps, 90 contracts, and 70 licenses machines to use. You can also play online with up to three other players.
Trombone Champ (#30)
Just watch this.

The Movers
Unsurprisingly, the key to moving up the Steam charts often involves being on sale. Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands is 33% off, a historical low, if you’ve been waiting for a better deal. Monster Hunter Rise is currently 50% off, Flight Simulator was 20% off, and Stellaris got a boost from the recent Toxoid Species Pack.
+53 Monster Hunter Rise
+53 Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands
+52 SMITE
+45 Microsoft Flight Simulator GOTY Edition
+41 Stellaris
The Sliders
After being on sale for 60% off, Days Gone has slid almost entirely out of the top 100 as the literal last game on the list. Horizon Zero Dawn isn’t far behind with it too dropping off after a similar sale.
What about the rest? Metal: Hellsinger debuted last week and it’s only natural for the game to backslide. Cities: Skylines got the new Plazas & Promenades DLC on September 14, so sales for it are also dropping off accordingly.
If you missed the Red Dead Redemption 2 sale, I recommend holding out once again. It seems to be 50% off at least once every 30 days on average.
-83 Days Gone
-56 Horizon Zero Dawn Complete Edition
-52 Metal: Hellsinger
-37 Cities: Skylines
-27 Red Dead Redemption 2
Longest Lasting
And that’s it! Down here at the bottom we track which games have been on Steam’s Top 100 sales chart for the longest. It’s a wild list with Counter Strike having more than ten full years on here. But honestly, the real surprising thing to me was seeing Elder Scrolls Online so high in the rankings and just one week behind GTA V which everyone associates with incredible longevity.
Counter-Strike: Global Offensive (529 Weeks)
Warframe (496 Weeks)
Grand Theft Auto V (402 Weeks)
The Elder Scrolls Online (401 Weeks)
Rust (379 Weeks)
Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege (358 Weeks)
Final Fantasy XIV Online (304 Weeks)
Dead by Daylight (281 Weeks)
Destiny 2 (168 Weeks)
Red Dead Redemption 2 (147 Weeks)
