Did Y'all Know Project Zomboid Was Almost A Decade Old?
TIL this game is OLD. (Also hey, it's doing well again).
The story of Project Zomboid is not over. The zombie survival title which saw a massive spike in popularity in late 2021 didn’t just fade into the background like some other early access games.
You’d be forgiven for thinking that was so. I’ve seen it mentioned a few different times here and there around game updates, but nothing nearly as loud as December ‘21 when it peaked at 65,000 concurrent players. Just this week the, however, title has quietly climbed back up to 59,000.
And while I feel like I pay attention to things more than most, I have to admit it was news to me, upon pulling up the game’s store page, that Zomboid first entered early access nearly a decade ago on November 8, 2013.
Well into 2020 the game had at most 2,000 players at a time, constantly pinging back and forth between that and 1,000. The userbase slowly grew for months up to about 6,000 before the massive one month spike in December. It’s honestly just really cool to see and something I wanted to quickly talk about this week.
Five New Games 🆕
Undisputed (#6)
This is the hero image for Undisputed??? Weird choice, but okay.
I know nothing about boxing, but Steel City Interactive says this game is loaded with punches. Like 60 of ‘em. It’s also got “all the tools needed to be a defensive wizard.” You hear that? A DEFENSIVE WIZARD. And get this. They even added the great British Boxing Board of Control! I don’t know what that is but I like the Great British Bake Off so I’m in.
SpongeBob SquarePants: The Cosmic Shake (#32)
I still have scars from Battle for Bikini Bottom so I’m going to pass on this
Your Only Move Is HUSTLE (#51)
My brain hurts looking at this game.
Master your technique, execute flashy combos, and outsmart opponents across the world, frame-by-frame. Slow down the clock to fine-tune your fighting style in this innovative, turn-based combat simulator. Pulverize your friends and choreograph spectacular fight scenes. No training mode required.
Superfuse (#60)
In the Diablo IV waiting room? A new early access ARPG just came out with a pretty cool art style.
SpellForce: Conquest of Eo (#62)
SpellForce seems like A LOT. The turn-based RPG strategy game has a “party” recruitment system, a ton of crafting, and a procedurally generated campaign which could be cool if it’s executed well. According to the reviews, it is.
